Cat-faced spider Jewel spider

Araneus gemmoides Chamberlin & Ivie, 1935

Description:

Spider with large 1cm abdomen. Large horn-like projections on top of abdomen. Thus giving it the distinctive name cat-faced spider.

Habitat:

Side of house. In dry SE Idaho.

Notes:

This particular spider seems to have just gone through a molt. The light flake looking pieces in the abdomen were coming off. She was not aggressive at all. I picked some of it off her to see shapes underneath.
