Mating Mantids

Description:

So after weeks of watching the green carolina mantis (f) move from one part of my yard to the other, she finally settled in to my morning glory plant on the back porch. I was worried when another mantis showed up on my porch 2-3 weeks ago. The new mantis had a few snacks, but I was worried he would interfere with the green mantis. I wasn't sure whether they were the same species. Well, lo, to my surprise... after watching the new mantis circle the green mantis a few times one evening(around 8PM), I caught them mating! They stayed like this for several hours (definitely between the hours of 10pm-12:30) until I went to bed. The next morning they were gone.
