This little wild fruit opens like a flower to release its seeds ..... Brazilian name: Melão de São Caetano
To answer Jeannette below: The orange pod is hollow but the seeds are each thinly covered with a sweet slimy red coating. As children we used to put the seeds in our mouth suck all the red off then spit out the seeds.
