Gray squirrel with squirrel pox

Fibromatosis

Description:

juvenile eastern gray squirrel with numerous squirrel pox lesions

Habitat:

spotted struggling to cross a neighborhood dirt road

Notes:

Squirrel pox is a viral disease that affects the skin and sometimes internal organs of juvenile gray squirrels. In less severe cases the animal recovers, but it is often fatal. This poor little fellow's feet, ears, back and eyes were affected by the tumors and I suspect he will not survive.
