Blue Cohosh

Caulophyllum thalictroides

Description:

This plant has yellow-green flowers, blue berry-like fruits, and bluish-purple foliage.

Habitat:

Spotted growing in a deciduous forest.

Notes:

It has been used medicinally for ages, especially to induce labor. Although, the safety of this plant is seriously questioned and it is not generally regarded as a safe supplement.

Blue cohosh has effects similar to the hormone estrogen. It also narrows the vessels that carry blood to the heart, which can decrease oxygen in the heart.
