Skipper

Hesperiidae

Description:

Sharing this with you because I liked the way this guy is showing his proboscis (the hair like thing black going from the mouth to the flower). A butterfly drinks through its proboscis. Butterfly proboscises are slender, tubular feeding structures. Culminating in a sharp, beak-like tip, the proboscis works like a straw through which a butterfly drinks its food.

Habitat:

Seen feeding on a Lantana plant in my garden.

Notes:

A skipper is named after it's quick, darting flight habits. There are more than 3500 recognized species of skippers and they occur worldwide. -Wikipedia.
