Description:

Is this an Atlas Moth? Quite big, wing span around 18-20 cm. Found it at the dining area of the Dive Resort I was at.

Nice find! Can I include this record in our database of sightings of Philippine Saturniidae?

Saturniidae, Saturniinae, Samia sp. and looks for me like being Samia luzonica. To my knowledge Samia cynthia is not found on the Philippines. The other Samia on the island would be Samia treadawayi, which, however, does not have this tiny black line on the forewing.

Still a very interesting find! These moths spin silk that is really tough! A "domesticated" subspecies is the animal responsible for producing Eri silk used to make saris in India!
