Ascocoryne sarcoides sl, incl. cylichnium
The fruitbody of Ascocoryne sarcoides sl, incl. cylichnium is gelatinous with various shades of pinkish purple. It is spherical at first, either sessile or with a very short stem, later becoming centrally depressed and then irregularly cushion shaped, forming brain-like compound groups. Individual fruitbodies can grow 0.5 to 1.5 cm across, while clusters often get 5 to 10 cm across. This jelly-like fungus goes through both asexual and sexual spore-producing stages.
Ascocoryne sarcoides sl, incl. cylichnium is saprobic on rotting trunks and stumps of broadleaf trees, particularly beech.
Spotted in Landgoed Bannink in rural area of Colmschate, Holland. (sources:see reference and Michel Beeckman)

Should be checked microscopically, so actually it should be called Ascocoryne sarcoides sl, incl. A. cylichinum! Ascocoryne cylichinum has larger spores, but is macroscopically indistinguishable from A. sarcoides.
That's where I usually find one too, Charlie :) And at the moment it seems to grow on practically every tree stump. This is however the first time I spotted one in this stage.
It's so very interesting seeing a species we get in my part of the globe , that you also get ! I always had luck finding this one on the end of old cut down tree stumps
