Black Mullein

Verbascum nigrum

Description:

I was just cleaning my archives in a vain hope to clear it up thoroughly, and came across this one, a very common summer flower in our counties and a spotting from last year. This Mullein is hardy perennial, producing a basal rosette of large dark green leaves, and a flowering stems a 1m tall and covered in tightly packed yellow five-petaled flowers.

Habitat:

Shores of an montane lake, in ruins of an ancient "ice factory"; today a monument. Lake is surrounded by a mixed forest, and is located at feet of steep slopes of Jura mountains.

Notes:

As an infusion, leaves are used for the treatment of various respiratory problems including coughs, bronchitis, asthma and throat irritations.
