Wood Borer Moth

Xyleutes persona

Description:

very large moth, 3", shades of black, white and grey

Habitat:

tropical forest, 800m

Notes:

I spotted this huge moth just sitting on the ground near the visitors centre in Nam Nao National Park. It was unnoticed by everyone around. It wasn't until I started searching all around the VC that I noticed it and some other cryptic moths. One of the largest moths I've ever seen. It was fairly calm. I gently nudged it onto my hand and it easily walked up onto it. I took a few shots and then put it back where it was.
