Description:

Very dark small butterfly enjoying Spring sunshine in my garden prepared for planting, some puddling in moist soil. Family: Skippers (Hesperiidae) Sub: Spreadwing Skippers (Pyrginae) Wingspan: 2.5 to 4.1cm (1 to 1.6 inch) Above Dark brown - forewing has extensive gray scaling at outer margins. Hindwing has two pale spots. Below: Dark brown. Sexes similar. Host plant: Willows, poplurs and birches.

Habitat:

Open woodland, forest edges moist woodland depressions.
