Cascade golden-mantled ground squirrel

Callospermophilus saturatus

Description:

This ground squirrel is found on the eastern side of the Cascade Mountains in Washington State and southern British Columbia. It is characterized by its russet-colored head and neck. It has pale eye rings and stripes on its back. Larger than chipmunks it measures from 287 to 315 mm.

Habitat:

Spotted in the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains. Conifer forest with fire damage nearby.
