Eichhornia crassipes
Growing in water in a pond in Selva Verde Lodge, Costa Rica. Eichhornia crassipes, commonly known as (common) water hyacinth, is an aquatic plant native to the Amazon basin, and is often considered a highly problematic invasive species outside its native range. Water hyacinth is a free-floating perennial aquatic plant(or hydrophyte) native to tropical and sub-tropical South America.
Selva Verde Lodge is in fragile tropical rainforest, located in the midst of the 500 acre Sarapiqui Rainforest Preservation Area in the lush Caribbean lowlands of northeastern Costa Rica. Its habitat ranges from tropical desert to subtropical or warm temperate desert to rainforest zones.
Certainly not Pamsai, WE have no distinction between invasive or native all are equally important. Our inertia in this humid land is the problem. :)) And I like this flower because it looks like PEACOCK FEATHER. :))
So I guess you are not very happy with it, Joseph! But is has a beautiful flower, that's one good thing that can be said about it!
Hi Pamsai. This plant came all the way from Amazon basin to Kerala and invaded our backwaters. :))
