I think this is a male because it has large mandibles. If I'm wrong please correct me.
Thanks, I looked it up on the internet and that's what it is. I always thought they were stag beetles but I guess not. Thanks again.
Genus Scarites looks like a pretty good match from what I can see. The elytral grooves and dual indentations on the head are present. As for sexing the beetle, that may be a bit tougher to pull off. :-)
