The Holy Orchid

Orchis sancta

Description:

This species of orchid is common in the Middle East including Israel, found in both momuntains and valleys. The name "holy" was given by Linnaeus based on his belief that this species (described in his Flora Palaestina) was endemic to the Holy Land.
