Roundleaf Catchfly
Taprooted perennial, up to 28" tall, crimson red flowers with 5 deeply notched petals. Small crawling insects get caught in the sticky secretion that coats the flower tubes, hairy stems and leaves, prevents insects from reaching the flowers. This facilitates cross-pollination by airborne insects only.
Shaded sandstone cliffs from Ohio to West Virginia, south to Georgia and Alabama.
