El gorrión común (Passer domesticus) es una especie de ave paseriforme de la familia de los gorriones. Es pequeño, está adaptado al hábitat urbano y acostumbrado a vivir cerca del ser humano, hasta el punto de ser el pájaro más frecuente y conocido. Aunque es originario de Eurasia y el Norte de África, se encuentra distribuido por todo el mundo, pues ha sido introducido por el ser humano en el resto de los continentes, a excepción de la Antártida. Cien ejemplares procedentes de Inglaterra se soltaron en Brooklyn, Nueva York. Esta medida se siguió en otras ciudades de Estados Unidos, donde es conocido como gorrión inglés. Puede llegar a vivir 13 años en cautiverio, aunque generalmente no llega a los 7 años en libertad.

These are an invasive species in the Americas. They are from Europe. They displace other native birds. I saw a youtube video where a man was hired to humanely kill house sparrows around this woman's house because all the cardinals, bluejays and other native birds had fled her yard. In a 3-day span I think he killed over 100 of them and all the native birds quickly returned to her yard.
I have had barn swallow nests near my house for years - the house sparrows invade and take the babies out of the nest, throw them on the ground and lay their own eggs in the swallow nest. I love animals, but these birds are a menace in the western hemisphere. They do not belong here.
