Though they are somewhat similar in appearance, the Great Pondhawk has a longer and more slender abdomen. The abdominal markings are a bit different as well. North Carolina is not a common range for the Great Pondhawk, which is reported in southern Florida and more Southwest US in general (though BugGuide does have a Tennessee record).

I feel pretty confident that this is an adult female Eastern Pondhawk.
