Black Crowberry

Empetrum nigrum

Description:

Also called mossberry because of the way it blankets its habitat. In the last photo you can see it basically covers the ground with just a few other plants breaking through. They have lots of little tiny seeds and are surprisingly juicy

Habitat:

On Pillar Mountain

Notes:

Edible, but not very tasty raw. They are best after a frost and made into jellies or jams (if you can strain out the seeds).
