Wormsnake

Carphophis amoenus

Description:

Adult shiny, solid brown snake with lighter pinkish belly.

Habitat:

Found beneath a rock on a talus slope in a forested hilly area along a paved greenway.

Notes:

This sight is an ongoing study sight where we are documenting the herpetofauna and educating the resident trail users. We were very careful to replace the rock as it was found and then release the snake to crawl back under it on its own so we did not squish it. We have permission from the parks department to to conduct our research there.
