Horned Grebe

Podiceps auritus

Notes:

Breeds on lakes in most of western Canada and winters along the coast. The late afternoon sun is highlighting the red eye, pale lore spot and pale tip to its straight bill, all helping to identify this as a winter plumaged Horned Grebe.
