Papilio glaucus
This butterfly was seen in very constant companionship of the black morph (which is considerably smaller than this one) [see last picture], which made me believe they were a mating pair, but my recent research says that both butterflies are female. (This one being identified as female by the blue dots on her anterior end.)

I'm back in Chicago now. I went out to one of my favorite bird/butterfly sanctuaries today and all I could find was a little sulphur. I guess Chicago is still a few weeks out from seeing the big butterflies. But at least the one I did find hung out on a dandilion for a good while. :)
I really appreciate a good model! I saw a couple of monarchs, several black & pipevine swallowtails & lots of smaller butterflies yesterday but they were all on the move & didn't hang around long enough for me to get any good photos!
Thanks! She hung out and let us take pictures for over twenty minutes!
What a beauty!
