Smooth Sow Thistle

Sonchus oleraceus

Description:

Small yellow multi petalled flower, similar in appearance to a dandelion, but the outer edges of the petals have a cream white tinge to them. Its name comes about because of its attractiveness to swine and the similarity of the shape of its leaves to a pigs ear. The leaves are often eaten in salads or cooked like spinach. These can be seen along the roadside here in Turkey.
