I spotted this beautiful butterfly on the road through Cat Tien National Park. I stayed a week in the park and saw these butterflies everyday along the road. It took all week for me to finally capture a photo of it with it's wings open.
@Laura: Nothing to bow! My IDeas of Asian bugs are often a shot into the dark ;-)...
Thanks Laura, it was worth a shot! I posted a spotting of the other butterfly in this spotting yesterday. It's the common Nawab. I do have a spotting of the common bluebottle too that I will post at some point. I have many more butterflies and moths to come.
Haha, the common bluebottle was basically the only Asian species I knew lol! I bow down to bayucca's superior knowledge :D Nice butterfly spottings though, so beautiful!
Thanks Laura! I have a better photo of the one in the background, pretty sure it is P. athamas, as bayucca's suggestion. I will post it soon. They were really cooperative when getting their photo taken.
The one in the back is a Nymphalidae, Charaxinae, Polyura sp. and most probably Polyura atamas:

So cool, it looks like the American flag... kinda! What a gorgeous butterfly :D Also, the butterfly in the background with its wings closed up is a common bluebottle, that's about the farthest my butterfly knowledge will stretch...! Lovely specimen.
