A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Rhinella marina
About 10cm long. Native to Central and South America, this species was first introduced to northern Australia in the 1930's, to control the sugarcane beetle. Not only, was this unsuccessful, but the Toad became (and is) a major problem for local wildlife, mainly predators which have no defence against the toad's toxicity.
Area of farmland interspersed with patches of tropical rainforest.
