Bark Anole

Anolis distichus

Habitat:

Found in Haiti, Dominican Republic, central Bahamas and, of course, Florida, these anoles can be found in range of habitats. Typically, on tree trunks where they camouflage well with the bark.

Notes:

Used to be seen occasionally on oak trees on roadside and parks. But this year there's a great abundance of them on a series of palm trees along a wooden fence which delineates the property border of the condo units in which I live. There seem to be at least a few individuals on each palm tree and now I see some on the fence as well. They seem to be outnumbering the Browns (A. sagrei) which I think is unusual. I've noticed the Brown's number has decline since Curly Tail Lizards (Leiocephalus carinatu) have moved into the area. I wonder if a decline in Brown population has resulted in an increase of Bark anoles??? Photos are of different individuals taken along same fence within minutes of each other.
