A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
This bamboo came originally from "George Washington's River Farm" which was in part "Arcturus on the Potomac", between Alexandria VA and Mount Vernon, where I lived when I was a small child. My dad brought some bamboo transplants from there to southwestern Virginia where it has grown for the past 60 years or so.
Bamboo - what an amazing plant. We have it happily growing between a creek and the road; contained as it were. It has just started new growth shooting up out of the ground. It is easy to kick over the shoots that grow where we don't want it, such as too close to the road. I am fascinated by the rock that two bamboo shoots have lifted out of the way. And when it can't lift or go under a rock, it goes over a rock!
