Silver Pheasant

Lophura nycthemera

Description:

Order: Galliformes. Fam.: Phasianidae. Origin: mainland Southeast Asia and China. Colours: the body is black and white (males); face and legs are red in both sexes; females are shorter and have a brownish colour. In aviculture, this sp. is an important and ornamental bird, but it it remains also as a free bird in its original wilderness until now.

Habitat:

You can find silver pheasants all around the world and a variety of 15 subspecies in its original land. But there are much more, since the science of heredity produces continually new hybrids, esp. with Kalij pheasant. We found this individual with others living in a stud farm of Pernambuco State, Brazil. This male, not too much peaceful, disliked strongelly my work with the camera. See how it looks at me.

Notes:

Just a little bit of colour red, but I think it is strong enough to justify Mission Colour Red. An spectacular bird with a beautiful head.
