Eastern water dragon

Physignathus lesueurii lesueurii

Description:

The Eastern Water Dragon is grey-brown with black banding and a row of spines from the crest of the head to the tail. It has a black stripe extending from the eye to the back of the head, Males often have a red belly and chest. It is a good swimmer and can remain submerged for half an hour.

He allowed me to get very close but I don't trust those claws. When he saw my shadow, he was gone in an instant. (At the North Head lookout.) I've just noticed the red underbelly, I guess its a male.
