Discoglossus pictus
A well-marked and distinctive frog. Body colour mainly olive-brown but marked with distinct darker brown blotches and spots on upper body; underside pale. Some individuals show broad, pale dorsal stripe.
Favours shallow pools and stream margins, even where water is brackish. Restricted mainly to South and West Iberian Peninsula, Sicily and Malta.
Distinguished from frogs of genus 'Rana' by having a rounded, not horizontal, pupil.
