Salvia farinacea
Upright to sprawling hairy perennial, to 3 ft. Stems are 4 sided and generally numerous and clump forming. Leaves are either soft, wide, and green, or narrow and silvery, simple and opposite, with wavy to coarsely saw-toothed edge. Flowers are blue, blue-violet to purple, or white, in dense whorls on tall naked stalks. Silver fuzz covering both stems and leaves is the "mealiness" that gives the plant its name.
Sun to part shade. Dry, often rocky calcareous or chalky soils. Does well in garden soils.
There are many cultivars of this plant.
