Ashley, if you edit the spotting and click the box that says you need help with the ID, then people will know to help with the ID - you can still leave the 2 names in the common name box. ;-)

Thanks for the comment. I've seen the bird a few more times and was sure I knew what it was, but I realized I selected the wrong name. It is definitely a sharp-shinned or coopers hawk.

This must be another hawk...Swainson's Hawks migrate to Argentina every winter and don't get back to the US until around April (people are seeing them now), so I don't think you'd see them in early February. I see a faint belly band - juvenile Red-Tailed Hawks have barred tails and white chests commonly with a distinct belly band. Do you have any other photos of him? Nice spotting...it's always fun to see the raptors!
