Greta, I'm using a book from the Cleveland Museum of Natural History " Dragonflies and Damselflies of North-East Ohio" - ISBN: 978-1-878600-11-0 It has promotion from the The Forest Stewardship Council. I like it because it provides several pages in the back of the wire spined book of the profiles in colours and types (male and female). But I looked up Maryland dragonflies on the web to check out the ID on this one.

I need a good guide book for damsel and dragonflies in North America. Any suggestions?
Thank you both!
What Mick said. A male.
I would go with this Common Whitetail (Libellula lydia)
