Charadrius ruficapillus
Red-capped Plover chicks are tiny. I would describe them as: two tiny, little balls of cotton wool (head and body) atop long, spindly, grey coloured legs; with a little beak protruding from the top ball. The colouring mimics the surroundings despite the white being so clean and bright. Very fast moving.
Darting around a small inlet with mangroves and mud at Lakeside, Cape Range National Park.
Red-capped Plover chicks "adopt a camouflaged position that helps it avoid detection by predators such as gulls and crows." I was lucky this little one didn't feel the need to hide. This energetic little chick was darting around a small inlet with mangroves and crabs with an adult. See adult spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/106...
