Brown Clam Lerp

Spondyliaspis plicatuloides

Description:

This small dark brown lerp was shaped like a clam shell wit radiating ridges and troughs. It was smaller than the basket lerp and was solitary. Discolouration of the leaf surface seen under the lerp.

Habitat:

Spotted on a eucalyptus leaf in a reserve.

Notes:

said to be common but it is the first one I've seen. Often solitary.

Joshua, that's just the house the critter lives in. The little insect nymph that built it is actually quite cute. Glad you like the photo though. I've always wanted to see one of these and this one was my first.
