Gymnopilus mushroom

Gymnopilus ferruginosus

Description:

A small mushroom with a cap about 25mm wide. The brown cap was extremely crusty to touch and on close inspection appeared to have stiff flaky scales ( fibrillose scales). The margin of the cap was a pale creamy brown. The gills were cream with tinges of brown and the stipe a yellow ochre with pale brown markings.

Habitat:

Dry eucalyptus forest

Notes:

A very interesting texture for a mushroom cap - for all the aussies, it reminded me of an Anzac biscuit !
