Calypte anna
This series is of an immature or female hummingbird doing its morning stretch and yawn! It has a yellow head, red patch on throat and white tips on the tail feathers. I didn't notice any rufous on the sides which kept me from ID'ing this one.
Backyard in bamboo bush.
I have other spottings of this species. The male is at: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/735... One feeding is at: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/942... Babies are at: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/923... Nesting female at: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/895... Eggs in nest at: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/900...

Thank you Lorelei!
Lovely series!
A-Ha! That solves the mystery. Thank you Liam!
Cute spotting!
Not enough color here for Selasphorus hummers, thus Rufous and Allen's are ruled out. I'm pretty confident this is an Anna's Hummingbird (Calypte anna). The color on the crown is pollen.
You're so right Emma :) Thank you.
Thank you tmgerber! I enjoy them too. This is the first time I've seen one yawning!

But they grow thru so many color changes from infancy to adult like all other creatures,
Great spotting! Really enjoy watching the hummingbirds.
Also Jonathan Sequeria spotted one recently. Let me check my favourites. I will BRB.
Picture number 3 and 4 are cute. I see a female Annas preening all the time. i have seen so many Anna's that I thought I would be able to say for sure.
In the article below, warm weather brings the rufous out. The author says that every time he thought it was an Annas it turned out to be a female Rufous.
So much to learn and so little time.
Good info Emma, thank you! I'm sure Liam will ID this one quickly :)
Cindy,Read this link. It might give you more insight into your spotting. The first half that is.

I am curious to know the ID.keep me informed!
Thank you Jeannette!
Emma, most of the time that's true! One of the descriptions on Cornell Lab of Ornithology for an Adult female or immature is "Greenish gold crown and back. White breast. Usually iridescent reddish spot on center of throat. Reddish tail with black patches and white tips"
Very cute bird.
Great video! Thanks for sharing, Emma :)
Lovely series :)
I just red your description. Rufous female has a orange patch on it's throat. and not red.
Cindy, here is a video of a female rufous.
Rufous are the feistiest of all humming birds.

Female rufous? The male is totally rufous. There is no mistaking! reddish brownish coloration.
Emma, what do you think this species is? We spoke about Rufous recently and this has some of the color traits but not all. Hmmm
