The largest of the pincushion group of proteas. This is in fact a tree, growing up to 5m tall and 6m large. The leaves are deep glossy green. Red glandular teeth may appear on their points. Flower heads are yellow, being up to 90mm large.
Cape Peninsula fynbos vegetation.
Hi Noah C, so glad you are part of the mission now. I hope you can help with some of the species on the mission and also identify if they are in fact Fynbos. The web has many confusing sites, and many with unclear pictures. Im getting a book on the Fauna in Western Cape as soon as possible. But I think we should help each other to name them all, and any comments and suggestions will be welcome. I agree with you here, Tree Pincushion.
Stephen, I must admit I am surprised by your suggestion: the ID I provided gives not only the familly but as well the exact species. Your suggestion provides only the familly and therefore is less precise. Do you think the species is uncorrect?
That Fynbos mission is a great idea! This is a unique environment that host several wonderful species and must be celebrated! I am happy to join it!
Hi Noah C, this is beautiful, Im lucky enough to have one in my garden! I started a mission "Fynbos of Western Cape" As I do not know our Fynbos as well as I would like, I will be most happy to have you as part of the mission.
