Hawk

Buteo lineatus

Description:

Possible Red-Shouldered or Red-tailed Hawk

Habitat:

Urban backyard within a mile of two large-ish parks.

Notes:

We have seen the hawk flying around. Took this picture with my phone as the hawk sat on the power line from the pole to the house. This is the first time we have seen the hawk in our yard. Flew off before I could get my better camera. Sorry for poor quality.

Defiantly a Red-shouldered Hawk. Red-tailed Hawks are much larger and will have a black band across the chest.

I don't think you need to go hunting! You should get answers right here! Give it a little bit of time and someone will give you a definite answer. ;-)
And Welcome!!!!

Thanks Christy, I've changed the name. There are some local resources I'll check with that will probably know what s/he is.

Nice shot! Pretty sure it's a Red-Shouldered Hawk, not a Red-Tailed Hawk. Great spotting!
