Alfalfa Weevil

Hypera sp.

Description:

Brown beetle with long, wide nose. The elytra is mottled with lighter coloring. There is dark coloring down the center of the thorax and onto the elytra creating a wide strip of black.

Habitat:

I pulled it out of the dog water bowl located under the porch light in Oak Woodland. If this is H. postica, it is an invasive species here. Native to Europe and Asia but is widespread now here in the states.
