The German name for it is Hainlaufkäfer.
The English wiki-site provided the scientific name. I found the common name for it via google - can't remind the reference url though, sry.
I think maybe Purple Rimmed Carabus is found in America and violet ground beetle is the European species.
Carabus violaceus is in Danish called "violetrandet løber" (Purple Rimmed) but in English violet ground beetle.
very beautiful violet rim
Actually I am a bit confused in danish fieldguides I think yours are named Violet ground beetle (Carabus violaceus) but I can not find Purple Rimmed Carabus.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carabus_nem... it is only called ground beetle. I think there are some contradictions in it all.
Thanks a lot Janson
Thanks, Jeannette - are you sure about yours being a C. nemoralis? There is no purple rim on the shield and abdomen.
Lovely series :)
I have some photos of its cousin :) http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/102...
Thank you oxyjack
Nice one Lars!
Thanks Viv...exactly, the purple gets lost with using the flash; that's why i prefer the true colors without flash
Beautiful set of photos Lars .... that blueish purple colour is amazing!
