Pygmy Grasshopper

Tetrix sp.

Description:

Slim cricket-like body. Hind limbs strong. Good jumper. Long, hard elongated tail. Dark.

Habitat:

In the garden but also seen indoors.

Notes:

As kids we called it Devil's horse (Shaitan ka ghora). We used to gingerly catch it by its tail and set it on someone's hair or clothes or whatever...you needed to move stealthily and have a soft but secure grip. The insect usually jumped to safety when it was released. I have not seen this insect for many years.

Check-out grass hoppers. Interesting placement of eyes - high above the head. Nice spotting Sukanya. Hope you get an ID.
