A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Charadrius vociferus
Found at USC-Aiken (college campus) brought into a nature store after found away from its nest. (I was not the one who found it - it was several students.)
This baby killdeer was taken to a nature facility that will care for it and set it free. *Note - when finding a baby bird away from its nest, look for the nest first and if you find it, gently put it back in. You can also put it in a basket or box (open top) and tie it to a tree that you found it near. The mother will most likely come back. If all else fails, take it to a wildlife facility that can care for it.

An adorable chick!!!
and thank you for rescuing it!
what a adorable cutie
Precious!
I remember when I caught one of those too, felt like cotton.
Killdeer chicks are very cute. Nice shot. Also, good info to pass on. Mothers always told their kids not to touch baby birds because the mother bird will let it alone, when in fact that is not true.
Very much so! I hope its doing OK. The owner of the store told me that they have shallow nests on the ground and the baby killdeer typically leaves sooner than most chicks.
That is one cute chick!
