Rosy-faced Lovebird (Juv.)

Agapornis roseicollis

Description:

Green under and upper-parts, blue rump and black primaries. The face and throat are yellowish-white for the juveniles, pink for the adults. Both sexes alike. The bill is short, curved, black on the top, bright yellow on the bottom.

Habitat:

Johannesburg city open parks with sparse trees to perch. The usual habitat is dry open range, including arid areas and mountains. A group of adults was used to come and perch at sunset and sunrise in the trees in my backyard, calling each other with very loud chirper. That was lovely.

Notes:

What a surprise on this early morning... Something is floating in the swimming pool, half-hanged to the child protection net I did not reattach well the night before. Having a closer look, I notice this is a bird and try to rescue it. I don't know if it was more scared to drown or about me (eventually falling into the pool), but I finally managed to grasp it. I let it on the safe ground. It ran into the shrubs in the backyard and start to call loudly. Before long, I noticed 2 adults coming and perching in the trees and let the backyard free for them. They took 2 days to teach it how to fly properly ... and not to land in the pool. Ah, juveniles... Also called Peach-faced Lovebird
