Australasian Figbird (male)

Sphecotheres vieilloti vieilloti

Description:

Males have bare, red skin around the eye, contrasting against a black crown and grey neck and throat. The remainder of the body is olive-green, except for a white under-tail area, and the bill is black. (Birdlife Australia: http://birdlife.org.au/bird-profile/aust... )

Habitat:

Hanging around a small park along the highway at Wooroolin.

Notes:

There were three males and one female hanging out in the trees. Not so much noisy themselves but due to moving about in the foliage, the rustling was enough to realise they were there. This is the first time I have seen more than either one male or even one female at a time! Here's something I never knew, "Australasian figbirds make a large number of different short calls, and are also able to mimic the voice of other birds, for example parrots and other species of orioles."
