Ranunculus ficaria
Low growing, hairless perennial plant with fleshy dark green, heart shaped leaves. Flowers are symmetrical, bright yellow with 8-12 petals borne singly on stalks that rise above the leaves.
Native to Eurasia, introduced in North America. Considered invasive in many states. Occurs in low open woods, floodplains, meadows, and waste places.
