Shiny brown leaf beetle

Paropsisterna sp.

Description:

A large leaf beetle, very dark brown coloured with paler lines through the elytra (which only showed up via camera flash). Approximately 14mm long. Very inert - I was able to touch it with not much response other than to adjust it's position slightly.

Habitat:

Hiding under a eucalyptus leaf in a local nature reserve.

Notes:

Another new Paropsisterna for me. Pic 3 shows a cluster of (large) larvae which may or may not be related to the beetle. They were the only organisms found on the whole, small sapling. The lack of movement matches well with Peter Chew's experience. Still trying for species.
