Coffee Bee Hawkmoth

Cephonodes hylas

Description:

Large, stocky-bodied moth with clear wings and colourful body. Black bristly tuft of a tail. Surprisingly, it is a very rapid and restless flier despite its bulk.

Habitat:

My office garden. winter seasonal flowerbeds. I had a tough time focusing...I think I just about got one decent shot for every 5-7 I clicked...even in continuous mode the shots are not very good.

Notes:

Reportedly the newly emerged moth is pale green with off-white wings. So, this one is a mature moth. When I show people this moth (or its photo) the first reaction is never seen it before...yet I have seen it at home at least twice...on the boundary wall or garage etc...so maybe not rare.
