Dianella (Blue Flax Lilly)

Dianella cerulea

Description:

Strappy dark green long leaves growing from base, tall dark stem emerges from base amidst leaves with small blue star-like flowers with yellow stamens, followed by deep irridescent blue/purple berries. When crushed the berry produces a dark blue dye. Stems holding berries appear almost black and the contrast between berry and stem is beautiful.

Habitat:

There are more than 14 species of Dianella found throughout much of eastern Australia growing in a wide variety of soil and ecosystem types from coastal to cool mountain country to drier regions.
