Dianella cerulea
Strappy dark green long leaves growing from base, tall dark stem emerges from base amidst leaves with small blue star-like flowers with yellow stamens, followed by deep irridescent blue/purple berries. When crushed the berry produces a dark blue dye. Stems holding berries appear almost black and the contrast between berry and stem is beautiful.
There are more than 14 species of Dianella found throughout much of eastern Australia growing in a wide variety of soil and ecosystem types from coastal to cool mountain country to drier regions.
