Showy Lady's Slipper

Description:

White and pink flower with pouch-like petal. Orchid family.

Habitat:

Spotted this flower along with many others on Hwy 29, near Pine Lake. This flower grows in cool, wet, swampy places near forests. it is quite rare, but it is found in secluded places in Minnesota, especially in the northern areas.

Notes:

The Showy Lady's Slipper is Minnesota's official state flower and is also known as the "Orchid of the North".
